The official Machine Party game page describes the experience as supporting two to four players. This number applies to the released game's party format and is the safest answer to “how many people can play Machine Party?”

Does the mode change the limit?
The confirmed v1.5.0 Arcade mode changes how a sequence is presented: ten random simulations, randomized rounds, and no opening or ending framing. The developer did not describe it as a higher-capacity multiplayer mode, so the reliable limit remains 2–4 players.
Online and local are separate questions
Steam lists Machine Party as online co-op. That tells you the released game can connect a supported party online; it does not prove the presence of public matchmaking. The developer has stated that the base game will not include an in-game public lobby list or public matchmaking.
Local couch co-op is a different feature. It was still in development on August 4, 2026. A four-player online cap therefore does not mean four people can currently sit at one computer and play locally.

What can a group larger than four do?
The safest option is to split into supported groups or rotate between sequences. This avoids relying on an unofficial download whose compatibility and safety have not been verified for this guide.
One practical format is to create two groups, run an agreed number of simulations, and compare outcomes afterward. Another is to rotate one or two spectators between sequences. These are group-organization ideas, not hidden game modes, and they do not change the game's player cap.
What about “more players” mods?
Community posts can describe extra features, but they are not proof that the released game safely supports more than four players. A recently discussed mod still did not establish a higher player cap in the material reviewed for this project.
